CASTING: ALICE IN WONDERLAND (STAGE) - VARIOUS ROLES

Production: An adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland at the Marylebone Theatre. The kaleidoscopic classic, involving a young girl who falls down into a rabbit hole of surreality and intrigue, will be retold in an adaptation by Penny Farrow (Songs for Sarah Connor), directed and designed by Nate Bertone (The SeaView Nursing Home). 

Using original music and puppetry to bring Carroll’s characters and Alice’s caper to life, the production was first seen in Australia in 2016 and has played to 100,000 audience members since its inception.

ROLES:

ALICE :

Age 18-25, female

Height 155 — 165 cm

Curious, energetic, youthful.

*Physical/ clowning skills a plus

*Teen actors with experience also welcome to apply.

WHITE RABBIT :

Age 35-50, any gender

Height 155 — 165 cm

Skittish; possibly enjoys aligning themselves with power. Starts and finishes the play as a puppet.

*Physical comedic skills/ clowning and puppeteering a plus. 

CATERPILLAR / DOORMOUSE :

Any age, any gender

Height 182 — 193 cm

CATERPILLAR: Imperious, stylish, languid yet beautiful in motion.

DORMOUSE: Sleepy; a snorer, raconteur, sweet with moments of street fighter aggression, has been known to beat box

*Puppeteer experience a plus

QUEEN / CHESHIRE CAT :

Age 20-40, male, transgender-male

Height 178 — 188 cm

QUEEN: Imperious, impetuous, physically impressive, juvenile. This is a really great drag role.

CHESHIRE CAT: Mercurial, cheeky, abrupt, emotionally removed. 

*Puppeteer experience a plus

TWEEDLE DUM / DODO :

Age 35-50, any gender

Height 135 — 155 cm

TWEEDLE DUM: Energy and joy (and logic) of pre-schooler. 

DODO: Confident, but often confused by his surroundings

*Physical comedic skills/ clowning and puppeteering a plus.

TWEEDLE DEE / KNAVE :

Age 35-50, any gender

Height 135 — 155 cm

TWEEDLE DEE: Energy and joy (and logic) of pre-schooler.

KNAVE: Knavish, cheeky

HATTER:

Any age, any gender

Any eheight

HATTER: Larger than life, joyful, quixotic

HARE:

HARE: abrupt, mercurial, a show pony when performing poetry

*All actors bar ALICE & WHITE RABBIT operate various puppets throughout so please only suggest experienced puppeteers.

*For the role of the Queen of Hearts we are very open and keen to engage with established drag performers who might not be available for the duration, the role could be shared depending on availability and interest!
